The Nutcracker Ballet was originally a Prussian story written in 1816 by E.T.A. Hoffmann. A young lady's favorite Christmas present, a Nutcracker, comes alive, defeats the evil Mouse King, and then spirits her away to the magical kingdom of dolls.
In 1892, the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreographers Marius Petipa & Lev Ivanov used Alexandre Dumas's adaptation of the story to create the ballet "The Nutcracker Suite" Its performance has become a Christmas tradition of almost all Ballet Companies. It sets the tone of the season as visions of sugarplums and snowflakes, flowers and a snowy fairyland "dance in your heads."
Music Boxes playing these beautiful melodies really add to the enjoyment of the Holiday
and perhaps further the memory of one's Christmas trip to the ballet .
