Made by Jobin of Switzerland, this very sweet Vintage Village of revolving Wooden Swiss Chalets, winds from the top (clockwise) and plays, " Sound of Music" on an 18 note Swiss Reuge mechanism. It measures 8 3/4" square and stands about 5 1/2" high.
It's hand-painted with careful detail...even to a cow's reflection in the little rivulet that flows by. The tiny flowers almost look like live flowers, the cows are nicely carved. The roof of each of the five houses lifts to reveal a little compartment and there is one little man out for a stroll. Benches, Bolders and a Bridge dot the landscape.
It is charming and in excellent condition. Probably not played much. It also has (rarely seen these days) a wooden off/on - push /pull peg to stop the music without lifting it from its place. They don't make them like that any more. In fact, there are only a few little chalets being made today (probably for the Swiss Tourist market) and most usually, the music is left to wind down.
