Plain shaft with inert rubber. Inert rubber is also called 'dead' rubber because it has no memory. When you drop this baton it absolutely stays where it falls. How to measure for the correct baton length:

For Adults and Grown Teens: Most coaches recommend holding the arm outstretched and measuring from the armpit, touching body under the arm. to the first knuckle of the longest finger.

Star Line Batons recommends having the young child stand facing you holding the right arm straight out to the right side. Lay a yard stick on top of the arm and read the correct baton length at the end of the longest finger. Order that size baton. This will allow for some growth.
