Dr. Hoot is battery operated. The batteries (AA) are already installed and ready to play. When you turn him over you will see on the under side, a little black on/off switch. When in the on position, you can squeeze his left foot where the red notes are and he will start to play. Access to the compartment (also on his underside) when batteries need to be changed necessitates turning one screw. You will need a tiny Phillips screwdriver to open the compartment. Enjoy!!
